The Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve Has Received Our Books

It is an honor to have our Russian icon book featured in the collections of major Russian museums, which are the main moving force in the preservation of cultural heritage and traditional arts and crafts. Today, we would like to share with you that the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve has received two copies of “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy.” Let us tell you more about this institution and its significance for modern-day education.

About the catalog of Russian icons

After many years of collecting and conservation, the icon collector Oleg Kushnirskiy shared his private collection of religious art with the world. “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy” is a catalog of gorgeous, rare religious images rescued from remote Russian villages. The book features colorful illustrations and informative articles to provide a thorough perspective on the development of the Russian icon painting tradition.

The Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve has received our books

The Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the Moscow region. Located not too far away from the capital, Sergiev Posad is a city that makes you feel like you have traveled to a different time. It has an abundance of magnificent churches and cathedrals, along with other historical sights. The city was named after the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, a cathedral famously founded by the Russian Orthodox saint Sergius of Radonezh in the 14th century.

The Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve has gone through many restorations and restructuring, especially during the 20th century. With time, the Museum accumulated the largest and most comprehensive collection of Russian traditional arts and crafts in the country. Its collection currently contains over 110,000 items, including ancient manuscripts, early printed books, embroidery, gold, silver, fine art, decorative and household objects, photographs, and, of course, icons.

We see our project as an attempt to preserve the Russian icon painting tradition. Similarly, the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve restores the gaps in the modern understanding of Russian history, art, and culture. We are incredibly thankful to this institution for supporting us and accepting our gift. We would also like to share that Russian Icon Collection has gifted another copy of the book to the Moscow Theological Academy, which is located within the walls of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. In the future, we hope to collaborate with even more amazing museums and institutions across the country.
