New Addition to the Collection of the Tver Regional Art Gallery

We are proud to say that since the date of its publication, “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy” has been included in the collections of many museums and libraries across the country. Quite recently, our catalog became part of the collection of the Scientific Library of the Tver Regional Art Gallery. Russian Icon Collection is incredibly grateful to the institution for its help in making the history of the Russian icon painting tradition as accessible as possible and for the special attention given to our book on the gallery’s website.

New Addition to the Collection of the Tver Regional Art Gallery

The Tver Regional Art Gallery is located in a historical building that used to be a royal residence. It was founded in 1866, becoming one of the first museums in the Russian province of Tver. After the Revolution, the museum’s collection grew exponentially, gaining new items that were retrieved from newly nationalized estates. Today, the Tver Regional Art Gallery contains nearly 50,000 items. Among them are works of Ancient Russian and West-European art, paintings, drawings, and sculptures, as well as Russian, European, and Oriental decorative arts, some of which date back to the 14th century.

>It is impossible not to mention the extraordinary collection of Russian icons and frescoes featured at the Tver Regional Art Gallery. The Tver School, one of the oldest icon painting schools in Russian history, was established in the Principality of Tver in the 13th century. One could also point out the pieces by the famous Russian icon painter Simon Ushakov as the gems of the collection. Considering all this, we believe that the Scientific Library of the Tver Regional Art Gallery is indeed the perfect place for our Russian icon catalog.

Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy” presents a fine selection of icons from the private collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy. The book will be of interest to both beginners and those who have experience in the field. The former will appreciate the colorful illustrations and the supplementary descriptions providing context to each piece. The latter will be able to expand their knowledge on the subject by reading scholarly articles written by remarkable experts in the studies of culture, history, and art.

As a project dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the Russian icon painting tradition, we are always happy to work with institutions and people who have the same mission. We appreciate the support we have received so far and are open to new collaborations.
