Ulyanovsk Book Palace Has Included Our Catalog in Its Collection
Public libraries are vital spaces that provide a comfortable environment for the local communities to learn. Russian Icon Collection has already had the pleasure of collaborating with many libraries across Russia. Today, we would like to tell you about Ulyanovsk Book Palace, also known as the Ulyanovsk Regional Scientific Library. We are proud to announce that his amazing institution has received our book “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy” and added it to its valuable collection.
Ulyanovsk Book Palace Has Included Our Catalog in Its Collection
The history of Ulyanovsk Book Palace started long before it gained its current name. The library is the direct successor of the Karamzin Public Library, which was founded in 1848 to commemorate the legacy of the first Russian historiographer Nikolay Karamzin. The first books that ended up forming the library’s collection were donated by politicians, cultural activists, publishers, and organizations, including the famous writer Ivan Goncharov who donated his personal collection to the institution.
Today, the Karamzin Public Library functions as a memorial exhibition. It is also part of the rare book collection of Ulyanovsk Book Palace, which notably includes the books that Nikolay Karamzin himself worked with when writing his magnum opus, “History of the Russian State.”
The Ulyanovsk Regional Scientific Library currently features over 2.3 million digital and physical books and over 300,000 periodical publications. The institution also has a research center dedicated to studying the works and life of Karamzin.
Ulyanovsk Book Palace is an important cultural, educational, and recreational center that works hard to promote the love of reading and learning to the inhabitants of the city. Russian Icon Collection finds this mission admirable. We are incredibly honored to have our book added to the Library’s collection. We sincerely hope that working with Ulyanovsk Book Palace will help us make another step toward the preservation of the rich history of the Russian icon painting tradition.
