Where to Find Miracle-Working Russian Icons of the Mother of God?
Antique Russian icons are unique, and not only because they were painted by hand. The truth is that each religious icon bears a spiritual charge and a historical testimony of Christian faith as well. Moreover, they have long been considered “windows into heaven,” helping people find the shortest path to God. Miracle-Working Russian Icons of the Mother of God
1. Our Lady of Vladimir
Our Lady of Vladimir (see photo above) is the oldest and most revered miracle-working icon of the Mother of God in Russia. Moreover, according to the legend, it was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist himself. You can find this amazing Orthodox icon in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
2. Icon of the Mother of God “Merciful”
This beautiful example of Russian icons is a copy of the renowned antique icon of Our Lady of Kikk, which is also attributed to St. Luke. Both icons are considered miracle-working. While the original is preserved in the Kykkos Monastery in Cyprus, the Russian icon can be found in the Zachatyevsky Monastery for women in the center of Moscow.
3. Icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God
Known for its many miracles of healing, the antique icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God is one of the most venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church. It is currently kept in the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery, while its many copies are spread throughout Russia.
4. Icon of the Mother of God “The Seeker of the Lost”
Antique icons with the image of the Mother of God “The Seeker of the Lost” are also considered miracle-working and can be found in different monasteries across Russia. However, the most revered one is currently kept in the Church of the Ascension located on Bryusov Lane in Moscow.
5. Icon of the Iver Mother of God
The original miracle-working icon of the Iver Mother of God, also known as Panagia Portaitissa, is preserved in the Monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos in Greece, but its copies can be found in Russia. For example, this beautiful icon is kept in the Chapel of the Iver Icon of Our Lady at Resurrection Gate in Moscow.
