The Museum of the History of Religion Provided a Review of Our Book
At Russian Icon Collection, we believe that feedback is essential for the growth and development of any project. Since the release of our book “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Centuries: The Collection of Oleg Kushnirskiy,” we have received positive reviews from many institutions across Russia. For example, just recently, we have received a wonderful review from the Scientific Library at the State Museum of the History of Religion. We are incredibly happy that such an esteemed institution sees value in our work.
The Museum of the History of Religion Provided a Review of Our Book
Located in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the State Museum of the History of Religion is officially the only museum specializing in the history of religion in the country. It was founded in 1930 when religious organizations were starting to be prohibited by the state. The Museum of the History of Religion boasts a collection of about 200,000 objects of religious significance, fine art, household objects, photographs, and other artifacts, some of which date back to the 6th millennium BC.
The Museum’s Scientific Library was established in 1932 and contains editions ranging from antique 17th publications to modern literature. The library collection includes masonic literature, pre-revolutionary religious periodic publications, Old Believer literature, anti-religious early Soviet texts, and many more.
Russian Icon Collection has recently received a thorough review of our book from the Museum. The head of its Scientific Library, A. V. Paneyakh, pointed out the comprehensiveness of the material presented in the book and its scientific relevance, as well as the visual aspects of the catalog, such as the high-quality reproductions of the icons and the unique layout design.
At Russian Icon Collection, we are always looking for ways to collaborate with cultural and educational institutions across Russia and abroad. We strongly believe that doing so will help us spread knowledge about the Russian icon painting tradition and build meaningful connections with like-minded people. We are beyond glad to receive support and positive feedback on our book from the State Museum of the History of Religion.
Our Russian icon book is currently available for purchase in the Museum’s store. Thanks to this remarkable institution, even more people can now learn about traditional icon painting, a lesser-known but very important part of Russian history and culture.
