The First Public Exhibition of the Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection

The First Public Exhibition of the Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection

We are incredibly excited to announce that sixty Russian icons from the Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection will soon be presented to the public at The Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis! The exhibition Masterpieces of Sacred Art from the Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection will be on view at the Mezzanine Gallery from October 26, 2024, to January 26, 2025.

The exhibition features sixty icons drawn from Oleg Kushnirskiy’s important collection of Russian sacred art. Displayed in a museum setting for the first time, Kushnirskiy’s collection presents a remarkably focused assembly of works created in the renowned icon-painting centers of Palekh, Mstyora, Kholuy, Vetka, and Guslitsy in the late 18th–19th centuries. Many of the icons elaborate the iconography of Eastern Christendom’s eminent, and indeed primary, theme: the Resurrection—the Descent into Hell.

The Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection reflects the key icon-painting centers of the 18th and 19th centuries: Palekh, Mstera, Kholuy, Vetka, and Guslitsy, providing an opportunity to trace the evolution of late Russian icons over several centuries.

You can find the full text of the exhibition description on the museum’s website.
