The book “Russian Icons from the Mid-17th to the Early 20th Century. The Oleg Kushnirskiy Collection” presents a unique collection of Russian art. Oleg Kushnirskiy has been preserving precious Russian icons from oblivion for many years, finding them in distant villages and antique markets around the globe.
This publication was made possible by meticulous work by leading Russian and foreign experts who studied and described the collection. The authors of the academic articles accompanying the catalog are Anna Ivannikova, a specialist in Russian icon painting of the 18th–20th centuries, certified expert and curator of the late icon painting collection at the State Hermitage Museum; Wendy Salmond, Ph.D., professor at Chapman University (California) and Chief Editor of the Journal of Icon Studies; and Alek D. Epstein., Ph.D., Israeli sociologist and cultural scholar, Director of the Discovery Routes historical and cultural Association.
The collection is being presented in its full diversity for the first time. Colorful illustrations accompany detailed comments that explain the history and the profound meaning of each of the forty-six pieces.
This publication aims to reveal the most valuable pages of the Russian icon painting heritage and spiritual culture to a broader audience.
